Listed recently as one of the most influential women in the Arts in QWeekend, Courier Mail, Maxine Williamson has been an arts leader in Brisbane and internationally for 28 years. Maxine’s experience is predominantly in the film industry; however, she is also General Manager of the celebrated national chamber music soloist group: Southern Cross Soloists, Company in Residence at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre for 14 years and General Manager of the much-loved Bangalow Chamber Music Festival, celebrating its 20th edition in 2023. Maxine has worked in the local and international film industries for 28yrs. A specialist in Asia Pacific cinema, was influential in establishing in 2007 the international awards platform the Asia Pacific Screen Awards as Film Director, finishing after its 10th edition in mid-2017 to commence film producing in the region. She was Associate Producer documentary series Scene by Scene: Films and Filmmakers of Asia Pacific aired globally on CNN. She has been Artistic Director of two international film festivals – Brisbane International Film Festival and Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival. General Manager for ten years in Exhibition/Distribution of quality art, foreign language cinema at Dendy Cinemas and Films. Maxine was Artistic Advisor and Manager of an internationally touring exhibition FRAME: How Asia Pacific Feminist Filmmakers and Artists are Addressing Inequalities which premiered during the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, then to the Sydney Film Festival, Berlin as part of the NATIVe program during the Berlinale and on to Washington. Advisory Board Member on Crime and Punishment International Film Festival, Turkey and Asia Pacific consultant on the Sabanci Foundation Short Film Competition, Turkey. She has moderated many Q&As with the world’s most influential film practitioners and participated on many international juries across the globe including the Berlin Int. Film Festival and is a member of The Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers; the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema; Asia Producer’s Network; and the Asia Pacific Screen Academy. Maxine holds a degree in Film/TV Degree – graduating with Distinction. Maxine’s first feature film as producer, award-winning Indian feature documentary DEATH IN THE CITY world premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival in October 2022. Maxine has three other feature films in development on her company’s slate SORRY STATE OF MIND PRODUCTIONS.
