في الخمســينيات مــن هــذا القــرن، قرويون يهاجــرون للعمل يف مناجم الفحــم من بينهــم العربي. يموت كل أصدقــاء العربي الذي أخبــره الطبيب بأنــه لــم يعد لديــه أمــل يف الحياة ألنه مصــاب بمرض خطيــر، فيقرر مع صديقه اليهودي العــودة ليموت يف بلدته، لكن ليس قبل أن يرتب بنفسه مراسيم دفنه.
