synopsis
Famous film director Levent (45), the honorary guest of Söke Film Festival from Istanbul, is completely unaware of Aliye (25), a housekeeper at the hotel where he is staying. However, Aliye, who is trying to tailor a new life story for herself, knows Levent and his films very well. Aliye’s intriguing story brings together these two distant people with ompletely different lives. Now, they have to choose between reality and fiction.
Director Biography – PELIN ESMER
After studying sociology at Boğaziçi University, Pelin Esmer attended Yavuz Özkan’s Z1 Film Workshop. She worked as an assistant director in both documentary and fiction films, and later founded her own film company, Sinefilm. Since 2001, she has been making independent films, including The Collector, The Play, 10 to 11, Watchtower, Something Useful, and Queen Lear.
Her documentary The Play (2005) had its international premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival. It was screened at over fifty festivals worldwide and won numerous awards, including Best Documentary Director at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Her first fiction film 10 to 11 (2009) was one of six projects selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation. Esmer completed the script for the film there. 10 to 11 was screened in the official selection of the San Sebastian Film Festival, received several international awards, and was released in Turkey, France, and Germany.
Her second fiction film Watchtower (2012), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam, was screened in many countries and in five different U.S. states as part of the Caravanserai Program.
Her third fiction film Something Useful (2017) won several awards in Turkey, including the FIPRESCI Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress awards, and was also awarded Best Screenplay at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
In 2018, Pelin Esmer was invited to Berlin by the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, where she worked on the editing of her documentary Queen Lear (2019). The film had its premiere at the Sarajevo Film Festival and was shown at many international film festivals. In Turkey, it received the Yılmaz Güney Award and the SİYAD Cüneyt Cebenoyan Award at the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival.
In the fall of 2019, Esmer was invited by the Camargo Foundation to a residency in Cassis, France, where she began working on her project And The Rest Will Follow. Completed in 2025, the film premiered at the International Fİlm Festival Rotterdam and was later invited to the Sofia International Film Festival and Istanbul Film Festival. It received the Best Screenplay award in the international competition of the Istanbul Film Festival. A Turkish-Romanian-Bulgarian co-production, And The Rest Will Follow continues its journey through national and international festivals, while Pelin Esmer continues to work on her new screenplay.

Levent (45 ans), célèbre réalisateur invité d’honneur du Festival du film de Söke à Istanbul, ignore totalement l’existence d’Aliye (25 ans), femme de chambre de l’hôtel où il séjourne. Pourtant, Aliye, qui cherche à se créer une nouvelle histoire de vie, connaît parfaitement Levent et ses films. L’histoire intrigante d’Aliye rapproche ces deux êtres lointains aux vies complètement différentes. Désormais, ils doivent choisir entre la réalité et la fiction.
Biographie de la réalisatrice – PELIN ESMER
Après des études de sociologie à l’Université du Bosphore, Pelin Esmer a suivi l’atelier de cinéma Z1 de Yavuz Özkan. Elle a travaillé comme assistante réalisatrice dans des films documentaires et de fiction, avant de fonder sa propre société de production, Sinefilm. Depuis 2001, elle réalise des films indépendants tels que The Collector, The Play, 10 to 11, Watchtower, Something Useful et Queen Lear.
Son documentaire The Play (2005) a eu sa première internationale au Festival de Saint-Sébastien. Projeté dans plus de cinquante festivals à travers le monde, il a remporté de nombreux prix, dont celui de la meilleure réalisatrice de documentaire au Festival de Tribeca.
Son premier long métrage de fiction, 10 to 11 (2009), a été l’un des six projets sélectionnés par la Cinéfondation du Festival de Cannes, où Esmer a achevé le scénario. Le film a été présenté en sélection officielle à Saint-Sébastien, a reçu plusieurs prix internationaux et est sorti en Turquie, en France et en Allemagne.
Son deuxième long métrage de fiction, Watchtower (2012), présenté en première mondiale au Festival de Toronto et au Festival de Rotterdam, a été projeté dans de nombreux pays et dans cinq États américains dans le cadre du programme Caravanserai.
Son troisième long métrage, Something Useful (2017), a remporté plusieurs prix en Turquie, dont le FIPRESCI du meilleur réalisateur, le prix du meilleur scénario et celui de la meilleure actrice. Il a également reçu le prix du meilleur scénario au Festival Black Nights de Tallinn.
En 2018, Pelin Esmer a été invitée à Berlin par le programme DAAD Artists-in-Berlin, où elle a travaillé au montage de son documentaire Queen Lear (2019). Présenté en première au Festival de Sarajevo, le film a circulé dans de nombreux festivals internationaux. À l’automne 2019, elle a été accueillie en résidence par la Fondation Camargo à Cassis, en France, où elle a commencé à développer Et le reste suivra. Achevé en 2025, le film a été présenté en première au Festival international de Rotterdam, puis invité aux festivals de Sofia et d’Istanbul, où il a remporté le prix du meilleur scénario en compétition internationale. Coproduction turco-roumano-bulgare, Et le reste suivra poursuit sa tournée dans les festivals nationaux et internationaux, tandis que Pelin Esmer travaille sur un nouveau scénario.
