SYNOPSIS :
An elderly Malaysian-Tamil couple discovers their male goat, set for ceremonial slaughter, is pregnant. Torn between faith and the expectations of their community, they struggle to decide whether to slaughter it or face the wrath of the gods.
Director Biography – Ananth Subramaniam
Ananth Subramaniam is a Malaysian filmmaker born of Tamil descent who co-founded Idio Sync Inc, an initiative/production house created to develop Tamil culture infused stories. Ananth’s work often explores the subject of his ancestral identity and family within the context of a multi-layered genre. He received an MA in filmmaking from Kingston University London. He was selected to participate in the 2020 Locarno Open Doors program and Southeast Asian Film Lab. His recent filmmaking credits include » The House of Brick and Stone » which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival & BIFAN and Liar Land which won a Special Mention Prize at the Locarno Film Festival. He is currently working on his debut feature film “ The Passport ” with the support from Berlinale’s Talents Tokyo, Cine Qua Non Lab, SGIFF’s Asian Producers Network, and Full Circle Lab. The project received Bucheon Award at BIFAN NAFF Project Market, Grand Prize Award at BAFF SEAPITCH, and has just recently been invited to Asia TV & Forum Market and Focus Asia Industry Market at Far East Film Festival Udine, Italy.

Synopsis :
Un couple âgé malaisien-tamoul découvre que leur bouc, destiné à un sacrifice rituel, est en réalité enceint. Déchirés entre leur foi et les attentes de leur communauté, ils doivent décider : accomplir l’abattage ou risquer la colère des dieux.
Biographie du réalisateur – Ananth Subramaniam
Ananth Subramaniam est un cinéaste malaisien d’origine tamoule. Il est cofondateur de Idio Sync Inc, une initiative/maison de production dédiée au développement d’histoires imprégnées de culture tamoule. Son travail explore souvent l’identité ancestrale et familiale à travers des genres multiples.
Il a obtenu un Master en réalisation à Kingston University London et a été sélectionné pour participer au programme Locarno Open Doors 2020 ainsi qu’au Southeast Asian Film Lab.
Ses films récents incluent The House of Brick and Stone, présenté aux festivals Fantasia et BIFAN, et Liar Land, qui a remporté une mention spéciale au Festival de Locarno.
Actuellement, il travaille sur son premier long-métrage The Passport, soutenu par Berlinale Talents Tokyo, Cine Qua Non Lab, SGIFF’s Asian Producers Network et Full Circle Lab.
