SYNOPSIS

First days of the War Alina, one of the film’s protagonists, disabled after leg surgery, spends alone

with the cat, in her home in a small city near Kyiv. She looks for the ways to escape. The bridges

are destroyed. Alina manages to find the only road useful and get away with the cat to her parents, caught by the War in their cottage in the nearby village. For the first weeks of the invasion everyone tries to live normally. The mother conducts online lessons, the father takes care of the cats and all the other animals in the neighborhood left behind, Alina records current events with her camera. The sounds of the approaching front force the family to alter their perspective. The way one sees and feels changes. When the neighbors leave their homes, Alina and her parents, under the cover of the night, hurry to pack. However, at the last moment, the father decides to stay. The camera tells the story of people caught in the war situation caused by the aggressive invasion. It portraits the process of how the family ties, the emotional bonds, relationship with the animals and the country itself – are getting deeper and stronger.

Director Biography – Alina Maksimenko

Alina Maksimenko, an artist born in Kiev, Ukraine. Painter, film director, director of photography. During the years 1985 – 1988 she studied in Art School named after T.G. Shevchenko. She graduated from Kiev Art. College of M. Boychuk in 1993. In 2014 she showed her first video installation at the Kiev Arsenal. She also finished documentary film directing speciality at class of Sergey Bukovsky, Radio Broadcasting and Press Institute in 2019. She graduated from DOK PRO programme at Wajda School. Her first short documentary “Ptitsa” (Wajda Studio, 2022) has won the main award at It’s All True! International Documentary Film Festival and was screened at international film festivals all over the world.

Synopsis :
Pendant les premiers jours de la guerre, Alina, l’une des protagonistes du film, handicapée après une opération de la jambe, reste seule avec son chat dans sa maison, située dans une petite ville près de Kiev. Elle cherche des moyens de s’échapper. Les ponts sont détruits. Alina trouve la seule route praticable et parvient à rejoindre la maison de ses parents, pris au piège par la guerre dans leur cottage d’un village voisin. Pendant les premières semaines de l’invasion, chacun essaie de vivre normalement. La mère donne des cours en ligne, le père s’occupe des chats et des autres animaux abandonnés, tandis qu’Alina enregistre les événements avec sa caméra. Les sons du front approchant obligent la famille à changer de perspective. Lorsque les voisins quittent leurs maisons, Alina et ses parents se dépêchent de préparer leurs affaires la nuit. Au dernier moment, le père décide de rester. La caméra raconte l’histoire de personnes prises dans la guerre, montrant comment les liens familiaux, les attaches émotionnelles et les relations avec les animaux et le pays se renforcent et s’approfondissent.

الملخص
