SYNOPSIS :
In a remote Mesopotamian village on the banks of the Euphrates River, twelve-year-old Adam decides to stop time within himself. Only three people believe in his ability to defy time: Anki, his loyal best friend; Ali, his younger brother; and Iman, his cousin, whose dreams of a future with Adam are shattered by his choice.
As the years pass, the villagers grow suspicious of Adam’s unchanging appearance. When a devastating weevil infestation strikes the crops for the second year in a row, the villagers blame Adam, believing he is cursed. He is imprisoned in an old, isolated barn, where he remains for over twelve years.
In the barn, through a magical blend of innocence and wonder, Adam remains untouched by time. However, the world around him, and those he loves, continue to age. Anki, now his jailer, transforms into the guardian of Adam’s eternal childhood. Adam draws Anki back to his childhood self, reviving the lost days of their friendship, regardless of how much time has passed.
Everyone gets old, except Adam.
Ali watches time slip away, growing increasingly disillusioned as he struggles to reconcile his aging self with the image of the forever-young Adam, while Iman, once filled with dreams of love, tangles time and space on her deathbed.
Realizing that the end of a dream follows the beginning of daylight, Adam witnesses the death of Anki, who has reached the age of eighty. Fulfilling his friend’s last wish, Adam places Anki’s body in a small fishing boat and takes it south across the Euphrates River to the sea.
Alone at the riverbank, Adam listens to the sounds of his eternal childhood, where the boundaries between dream and reality blur.
Director Biography – Oday Rasheed
Oday Rasheed is an Iraqi-American writer and director. In 2003, he directed Underexposure, the first film made in Iraq after the 2003 invasion. Shot on expired film stock, the movie premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and won multiple awards, including Best Film at the Singapore International Film Festival.
In 2009, Rasheed completed his second feature, Qarantina, which explored post-war Iraq through the lives of a displaced family and a hired killer. The film premiered at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and won the Jury Prize at the Oran Film Festival.
Since immigrating to the U.S. in 2012, Rasheed has continued to create films that bridge his experiences in Iraq and his life in the U.S. His first English-language film, If You See Something, was shot in New York and delves into themes of immigration, following an Iraqi immigrant. The film premiered at the 2024 Woodstock International Film Festival.
Rasheed’s most recent film, Songs of Adam, won the Yusr Best Screenplay Award in the 2024 Red Sea International Film Festival Competition.
Throughout his career, Rasheed has been committed to fostering the future of Iraqi cinema, co-founding the Iraqi Independent Film Center and leading workshops for young filmmakers.

Synopsis :
Dans un village mésopotamien isolé sur les rives de l’Euphrate, Adam, un garçon de douze ans, décide d’arrêter le temps en lui-même. Seules trois personnes croient en son pouvoir de défier le temps : Anki, son ami fidèle ; Ali, son jeune frère ; et Iman, sa cousine, dont les rêves d’un avenir avec Adam s’effondrent face à son choix.
Au fil des années, les villageois deviennent méfiants devant l’apparence inchangée d’Adam. Lorsqu’une invasion dévastatrice de charançons frappe les récoltes pour la deuxième année consécutive, ils l’accusent d’être maudit. Adam est alors enfermé dans une vieille grange isolée, où il restera plus de douze ans.
Dans cette grange, à travers un mélange magique d’innocence et d’émerveillement, Adam demeure hors du temps. Pourtant, le monde autour de lui continue de vieillir. Anki, devenu son geôlier, se transforme peu à peu en gardien de l’enfance éternelle d’Adam. Ce dernier ramène Anki à son enfance perdue, ravivant les jours oubliés de leur amitié.
Tout le monde vieillit, sauf Adam.
Ali regarde le temps lui échapper, se sentant de plus en plus désabusé face à son propre vieillissement, tandis qu’Iman, autrefois pleine de rêves d’amour, brouille le temps et l’espace sur son lit de mort.
En comprenant que la fin d’un rêve coïncide avec le début du jour, Adam assiste à la mort d’Anki, âgé de quatre-vingts ans. Exauçant le dernier souhait de son ami, Adam dépose son corps dans une petite barque de pêche et le conduit vers le sud, sur le fleuve Euphrate, jusqu’à la mer.
Seul sur la rive, Adam écoute les chants de son enfance éternelle, où les frontières entre le rêve et la réalité s’effacent.
Biographie du réalisateur – Oday Rasheed
Oday Rasheed est un réalisateur et scénariste irako-américain. En 2003, il réalise Underexposure, le premier film tourné en Irak après l’invasion de 2003. Tourné sur une pellicule périmée, le film a été présenté au Festival International de Rotterdam et a remporté plusieurs prix, dont celui du Meilleur film au Festival International du Film de Singapour.
En 2009, Rasheed réalise son deuxième long métrage, Qarantina, qui explore l’Irak d’après-guerre à travers la vie d’une famille déplacée et d’un tueur à gages. Le film a été présenté au Festival du film d’Abu Dhabi et a remporté le Prix du Jury au Festival d’Oran.
Depuis son immigration aux États-Unis en 2012, Rasheed continue de créer des films qui relient ses expériences irakiennes à sa vie américaine. Son premier film en anglais, If You See Something, tourné à New York, explore les thèmes de l’immigration à travers le parcours d’un Irakien expatrié. Le film a été présenté en avant-première au Festival International du Film de Woodstock en 2024.
Son dernier film, Songs of Adam, a remporté le Yusr du Meilleur Scénario lors de la compétition du Festival International du Film de la Mer Rouge 2024.
Tout au long de sa carrière, Rasheed s’est engagé à soutenir le cinéma irakien, cofondant le Centre du Film Indépendant Irakien et animant des ateliers destinés aux jeunes cinéastes.

الملخص:
في قريةٍ ميزوبوتامية نائية على ضفاف نهر الفرات، يقرر الطفل آدم، ذو الثانية عشرة من عمره، أن يوقف الزمن بداخله. ثلاثة فقط يصدقون قدرته على تحدي الزمن: أنكي، صديقه المخلص؛ علي، شقيقه الأصغر؛ وإيمان، ابنة عمه، التي تتحطم أحلامها بمستقبل مع آدم بعد قراره الغريب.
ومع مرور السنين، يبدأ سكان القرية بالارتياب من مظهر آدم الذي لا يتغير. وعندما تضرب آفة السوس المحاصيل للسنة الثانية على التوالي، يحمّله القرويون اللعنة، ويسجنونه في حظيرةٍ قديمةٍ معزولةٍ لأكثر من اثني عشر عامًا.
في تلك الحظيرة، وبمزيجٍ من البراءة والعجَب، يبقى آدم خارج سلطة الزمن. غير أن العالم من حوله وأحبّته يواصلون التقدّم في العمر. يتحوّل أنكي، الذي أصبح سجّانه، إلى حارسٍ لطفولة آدم الأبدية، ويعيده الأخير إلى طفولته المفقودة، مسترجعًا ذكريات صداقتهما القديمة.
الجميع يشيخ… ما عدا آدم.
يرى علي الزمن يتسرّب من بين يديه ويغرق في خيبةٍ عميقة، بينما إيمان، التي كانت يوماً حالمة بالحب، تخلط بين الزمان والمكان على فراش موتها.
وحين يدرك آدم أن نهاية الحلم تأتي مع بزوغ النهار، يشهد موت أنكي وقد بلغ الثمانين. فينفّذ وصيّته الأخيرة، فيضع جثمانه في قاربٍ صغيرٍ ويبحر به جنوباً عبر الفرات نحو البحر.
وحيدًا على ضفة النهر، يصغي آدم إلى أناشيد طفولته الأبدية، حيث تتلاشى الحدود بين الحلم والواقع.
سيرة المخرج – عُدي رشيد
عُدي رشيد مخرج وكاتب عراقي أمريكي. في عام 2003، أخرج فيلم Underexposure، أول فيلم يُصوَّر في العراق بعد الغزو الأمريكي. صُوِّر الفيلم على شريطٍ منتهي الصلاحية، وعُرض لأول مرة في مهرجان روتردام السينمائي الدولي، وحاز على عدة جوائز، منها جائزة أفضل فيلم في مهرجان سنغافورة السينمائي الدولي.
في عام 2009، أنهى رشيد فيلمه الطويل الثاني Qarantina، الذي تناول الواقع العراقي بعد الحرب من خلال قصة عائلة نازحة وقاتل مأجور. عُرض الفيلم في مهرجان أبوظبي السينمائي ونال جائزة لجنة التحكيم في مهرجان وهران السينمائي.
ومنذ هجرته إلى الولايات المتحدة عام 2012، واصل رشيد صنع أفلام تربط بين تجربته العراقية وحياته الجديدة هناك. فيلمه الأول باللغة الإنجليزية If You See Something صُوِّر في نيويورك، وتناول موضوع الهجرة من خلال قصة مهاجرٍ عراقي، وقد عُرض لأول مرة في مهرجان وودستوك السينمائي الدولي عام 2024.
أما أحدث أفلامه Songs of Adam فقد فاز بجائزة يسر لأفضل سيناريو في مهرجان البحر الأحمر السينمائي الدولي لعام 2024.
طوال مسيرته، التزم رشيد بدعم مستقبل السينما العراقية، فأسّس المركز العراقي للأفلام المستقلة وأشرف على ورش عمل لتدريب صُنّاع السينما الشباب.
