SYNOPSIS :
The film follows an intimate road trip between filmmaker Angie Obeid and her father, Mansour, retracing the journey he made 42 years ago. The documentary explores Mansour’s life choices at his daughter’s age and seeks to build a bridge between generations. Through this journey, the film delves into major geopolitical and social issues such as migration, religion, conservatism, family, feminism, and tolerance. It also reflects on the tensions between tradition and modernity, between family and individuality, and between home and the outside world.
Director Biography – Angie Obeid
Born in Beirut, Angie Obeid holds a BA in Film Directing and a MA in Documentary Filmmaking. Her debut documentary, « I Used to Sleep on the Rooftop » (2017), received a Special Mention at FIDMarseille and screened at festivals worldwide. Her short documentary « PACIFIC » (2019) earned multiple awards and was showcased at several festivals. Angie established Thereness Films, a production company dedicated to developing and producing films with compelling narratives and strong artistic approaches.

Biographie de la réalisatrice :
Née à Beyrouth, Angie Obeid est titulaire d’une licence en réalisation cinématographique et d’un master en réalisation documentaire. Son premier documentaire, I Used to Sleep on the Rooftop (2017), a reçu une mention spéciale au FIDMarseille et a été présenté dans des festivals internationaux. Son court documentaire PACIFIC (2019) a remporté plusieurs prix et a été montré dans divers festivals. Angie a fondé Thereness Films, une société de production dédiée au développement et à la réalisation de films à forte narration et approche artistique.

La réalisation documentaire a toujours été pour moi un moyen d’affronter des aspects de ma vie que je pourrais autrement éviter. Dans Yalla, Baba!, je pars en road trip avec mon père Mansour, similaire à celui qu’il a fait il y a 42 ans. Mon espoir est de me rapprocher du jeune Mansour, de comprendre les décisions qu’il a prises à mon âge et de trouver des terrains communs.
