When Black Women Dare to Travel documents the experiences of Black women from the United States on their first journey to Africa, specifically Morocco. This film captures the powerful impact of these women defying centuries of social and economic barriers that have historically restricted Black travelers. Through the lens of their experiences, the film delves into how traveling abroad redefines personal beliefs, broadens openness to the world, and nurtures a deeper acceptance of oneself. Most importantly, their journey serves as a political act, pushing back against prejudice, oppression, and marginalization. By engaging with new cultures, these women foster both self- empowerment and a collective anti-racist vision.
Director Biography – Amine Faali
Born and raised in Morocco, Amine Faali is a film director specializing in documentary film. Additionally, the director of When Black Women Dare to Travel (2025) serves as a film studies teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Dallas. Amine is a founding member of the Menarah institute at UT Dallas (Middle Eastern and North African Research of Art and History) where he oversees film and video productions executed in the United States and abroad. Amine presented his recent academic research project on Agnès Varda at the 121st Annual Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association conference which took place in Palm Springs, CA (November, 2024).

When Black Women Dare to Travel documente les expériences de femmes noires des États-Unis lors de leur premier voyage en Afrique, plus précisément au Maroc. Ce film capture l’impact puissant de ces femmes qui défient des siècles de barrières sociales et économiques ayant historiquement limité les voyageurs noirs. À travers le prisme de leurs expériences, le film explore comment voyager à l’étranger redéfinit les croyances personnelles, élargit l’ouverture au monde et favorise une acceptation plus profonde de soi. Surtout, leur voyage constitue un acte politique, s’opposant aux préjugés, à l’oppression et à la marginalisation. En s’engageant avec de nouvelles cultures, ces femmes encouragent à la fois l’autonomisation individuelle et une vision collective anti‑raciste.

Né et élevé au Maroc, Amine Faali est un réalisateur spécialisé dans le film documentaire. En plus de réaliser When Black Women Dare to Travel (2025), il est assistant d’enseignement en études cinématographiques à l’Université du Texas à Dallas. Amine est membre fondateur de l’Institut Menarah à UT Dallas (Middle Eastern and North African Research of Art and History), où il supervise les productions de films et vidéos réalisées aux États-Unis et à l’étranger.
