SYNOPSIS :
During a hot August in Cairo, Nadia struggles to mourn her estranged father and his mango tree.
Director – Randa Ali :
Randa Ali is a filmmaker working between Egypt and the USA. Her work explores themes of alienation and the desire to connect in a constantly changing world through stories of individuals and their relationship with places.
She is currently developing her first feature film, Rock, Paper, Sea, a coming-of-age story exploring girlhood in early 2000s Egypt. The project was awarded the CNC grand award at Aflamuna Connection and the Pop Up Film Residency from Tatino Films.
In 2024, her short film Mango, an exploration of loss and grief through a daughter-father relationship, was in the official competitions of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, Bilbao International Film Festival (ZINEB) and the Cairo International Film Festival. Mango was also awarded the WWF award at MedFilm Festival.
For her film Kingdom of Strangers (2022), she was awarded the ARRI Franz Weiser grant. The film also received the Jury awards at Toronto Arab Film Festival, Cairo Int’l Shorts Film Festival and Beirut Shorts.
Randa is a graduate of UCLA’s Directing MFA program, where she was recipient of a full-ride scholarship offered to female filmmakers from the Arab world.

Biographie de la réalisatrice – Randa Ali
Randa Ali est une réalisatrice travaillant entre l’Égypte et les États-Unis. Son travail explore les thèmes de l’aliénation et du désir de se connecter dans un monde en constante évolution à travers les histoires d’individus et leur relation avec les lieux.
Elle développe actuellement son premier long-métrage, Rock, Paper, Sea, une histoire d’apprentissage explorant l’enfance des filles dans l’Égypte du début des années 2000. Le projet a reçu le grand prix CNC à Aflamuna Connection et la Pop Up Film Residency de Tatino Films.
En 2024, son court-métrage Mango, une exploration de la perte et du deuil à travers la relation père-fille, a été sélectionné dans les compétitions officielles du Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, du Bilbao International Film Festival (ZINEB) et du Cairo International Film Festival. Mango a également remporté le prix WWF au MedFilm Festival.

راندا علي مخرجة تعمل بين مصر والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. يستكشف عملها موضوعات الاغتراب والرغبة في التواصل في عالم متغير باستمرار من خلال قصص الأفراد وعلاقتهم بالأماكن
حالياً، تقوم بتطوير أول فيلم طويل لها بعنوان Rock, Paper, Sea، وهو قصة نشأة تستكشف طفولة الفتيات في مصر أوائل الألفينات. حاز المشروع على الجائزة الكبرى من CNC في Aflamuna Connection وعلى إقامة Pop Up Film Residency من Tatino Films
في عام 2024، كان فيلمها القصير Mango، الذي يستكشف الفقدان والحزن من خلال علاقة الأب وابنته، ضمن المسابقات الرسمية لمهرجان Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival، ومهرجان Bilbao International Film Festival (ZINEB)، ومهرجان Cairo International Film Festival. كما حصل Mango على جائزة WWF في مهرجان MedFilm Festival
